On Becoming a Doctor 3 post

On Becoming a Doctor by Tania Heller, is an informational book about, things you need to do to become a doctor or enter in a medical field. The book has three sections. The first section is the  Prologue, the next is Interviews with Specialists, and the last section is Review and Resources.
In section three Review and Resources there were a lot of commonly asked questions that were answered by Doctors and Professionals and a Step by step process on How to Apply for Medical School. One questions that really interested me was “In order to be accepted into medical school, do you have to major in one of the sciences?” The answer to that question was “No, not necessarily to major in The Sciences, although students do so.” I thought this was interesting because if you decide to change your mind you will not need to worry about changing your major. Another interesting question was “I am interested in a medical career, but I don't visualize myself working directly with patients. What options are available to me?” The answer to that question was, “There are many options outside of direct patient care.” This question also interested me because even if you are not social and still want to be a doctor you are still able to accomplish that goal even if you hate interactions with people.
This book was very interesting and I learned a lot of interesting information about becoming a doctor and the different fields you can be as a doctor. The book also made me think on my goals in life and if I wanted to pursue my dreams on becoming a doctor. From all the entries I read and from all the interviews I read, I thought that will not become a doctor. The stress and the late hours would not be suitable for me and I would not really enjoy the job.

  1. There are many jobs in the medical field that do not have the stress a doctor encounters. You should research other options. For example, working as a technician or therapist can give you more stable hours and decent money. The schooling requirements are less intense as well. Imaging is another field that makes good money. Good luck with this big decision.
